MLS Laser Therapy

The ideal treatment plan should present options from many different angles. At Burlington County Foot & Ankle, we are proud to include state-of-the-art Multiwave Locked System (MLS) laser therapy as an effective option for soft tissue injuries.

Long employed by athletes and other professions that value performance and speedier recovery, we put MLS laser therapy to use for many of our patients as well.

What is MLS Laser Therapy?

MLS Laser Therapy is an advanced form of treatment that focuses and enhances the body’s own natural healing responses. It does this via the use of specific wavelengths of light energy.

The device is calibrated to very specific wavelengths depending upon the conditions and areas of the body that need treatment. The laser is then applied in a rhythmic motion, allowing the energy to penetrate the injury site.

The light energy has several positive effects:

  • Cells absorb and are stimulated by the energy, accelerating their repair and growth. This can lead to faster healing times.
  • Blood flow is improved by creating new, tiny blood vessels (capillaries) to better reach cells in need. This can further speed the recovery process and reduce the formation of scar tissue.
  • Inflammation is reduced. As blood flow improves and blood vessels dilate, swollen areas are better.
  • Metabolic activity rises. When cells are stimulated and a greater flow of oxygen and nutrients is being received by them, they will be able to take in and process these materials more effectively.

This form of laser therapy has shown great results for conditions such as plantar fasciitis, arthritis, neuropathy, sports injuries, tendonitis, and neuromas. It has also been widely used to accelerate the healing of wounds and to alleviate swelling and pain following surgical procedures.

Both acute and chronic pains can see benefit from MLS laser therapy. We will fully discuss your options and the potential of laser therapy working for you on a case by case basis.

What Can I Expect from MLS Laser Treatments?

One laser therapy session takes about 10 minutes. The sessions themselves are painless, while some patients do report a sensation of warmth in the area.

Whereas certain drugs and treatments come with the possibility of side effects, laser treatment has no known side effects in patients.

While many patients start to feel the effects after just one treatment, several are usually scheduled out over time. The positive impacts of the treatments tend to be cumulative, however, so each successive treatment often leads to even better-feeling relief.

The Treatments and Results You Need

MLS Laser Therapy is one of the newest, most advanced options we have for treating soft tissue injuries and relieving pain, but it isn’t the only one we have.

Depending on your lifestyle, goals, and circumstances, we may also recommend treatments instead of or in addition to laser. These may include custom orthotics, physical therapy, and changes to your habits.
